'Right now': Jonathan David delivers 12-word verdict on Liverpool after claims Reds want to sign him

Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League this season with a 2-1 win against Lille at Anfield.
The Reds have now secured their place in the Round of 16 of the competition but need a point against PSV Eindhoven to confirm top spot.
After Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock, Lille striker Jonathan David got his name on the scoresheet once again in the competition, while Harvey Elliott’s deflected effort eventually turned out to be the winner.
David has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool and a host of other clubs in Europe, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
And now, the Canadian international shared a glowing verdict on the Reds after they secured yet another win under Arne Slot.
Jonathan David says Liverpool are the best team in the world
David has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season and scored his seventh goal in the competition as he slotted home from close range to restore parity.
He scored against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid earlier this season and added another big goal to his tally with a goal at Anfield.
Liverpool made an enquiry to sign David earlier in the season as speculation surrounding his future continues to dominate the back pages.
And now, the Lille striker lauded the Reds after they secured three more points to cement their status as table toppers.
“I think they are the best team in the world right now,” said David to Prime Video Sport after the game.
David’s stats this season
With Darwin Nunez’s future at Liverpool uncertain, Liverpool may be in the market for a striker in the summer transfer window.
Jonathan David stats | Apps | Goals | Assists | Mins played |
Ligue 1 | 18 | 11 | 2 | 1.450′ |
UEFA Champions League | 7 | 5 | 1 | 539′ |
Champions League Qu. | 4 | 2 | 2 | 367′ |
Coupe de France | 2 | – | 2 | 177′ |
David certainly fit the bill and while he didn’t set the world alight with his performances, he was heavily involved in Lille’s attack and showed some nice touches before getting his name on the scoresheet.
His contract situation also makes him a market opportunity, so if the Reds are in the market for an attacker, don’t be surprised to see them firm up a move for David in the coming months.
