There are not many right-backs in the world of football more talented than Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old has been gifted with a wand of a right foot, reminiscent to that of Man United hero David Beckham.

Just like the legendary right midfielder, Alexander-Arnold’s talent has attracted a lot of criticism when performances fall below expectations.

The full-back has been immense for Liverpool this season, despite his ongoing contract situation in the background; however, the England international’s display against Man United at the start of the month was heavily criticised by fans of the Reds, and also Roy Keane.

At halftime on Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash, Keane stated that Alexander-Arnold would be joining Tranmere Rovers this summer.

This was in reference to the ongoing speculation that Alexander-Arnold will be joining Real Madrid ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Sky Sports pundit has now doubled down on his criticism of the Liverpool star with familiar comments on the full-back’s style of play.

Roy Keane doubles down on Trent Alexander-Arnold criticism

Criticism of the Liverpool star’s defending has often gone over the top, with Paul Scholes another to point out Alexander-Arnold’s defensive flaws, joining his fellow Man United teammate Roy Keane.

Speaking on the latest episode of Stick to Football, the former Ireland star has made similar comments, doubling down on his Tranmere Rovers line.

“If Trent Alexander-Arnold goes to Real Madrid, then good luck to him – as if Madrid don't know how to defend,’ the Sky Sports pundit stated. ‘He's played over 300 games and played for England, but he still defends like he has never played at right back.

“He's played all these games, and he must do training sessions, but he's playing right back, and people go at him like he's confused and never seen something like that before.

“Trent defends as if Liverpool have had lots of injuries, and they've asked him to just fill in a position.”

The latest on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool

The foundations of any criticism sent Alexander-Arnold’s way in recent weeks by Liverpool fans is fuelled by the defender’s contract situation at Anfield.

The right-back’s current deal expires at the end of the season and there has been no concrete update on a new contract being signed.

Carlo Ancelotti has left the door open for Alexander-Arnold to move to Real Madrid in January, although that is very unlikely given that Liverpool are currently fighting on all fronts.

Many still expect the 26-year-old to make the switch to Spain this summer and all the England international can do is block out the noise, while still performing the way he has been for Arne Slot throughout the campaign so far.
