While Trent Alexander-Arnold moves towards Real Madrid, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk look likely to stay committed to Liverpool beyond the season.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold's likely move to joinReal Madrid either on a free transfer in the summer or in a cut-rate January deal has understandably been the story that's taken centre stage in recent days, he isn't the only Liverpool superstar on an expiring contract.
There also are the small matters of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's expiring deals, both of which are set to run out at the end of the season and with both players as of today free to enter into negotiations with clubs outside of England should they choose to do so.
News on those two fronts, though, appears more positive with the likes of The Athletic's David Ornstein and professional transfer chancer Fabrizio Romano taking time out from the Alexander-Arnold tattle to suggest the club are feeling confident about the duo.
Recent speculation has suggested Salah and Van Dijk are likely to extend and that while a pair of new deals might not quite be on the horizon just yet, it's all closer to being wrapped up than not and in both cases two-year contracts are expected to be hammered out.
Van Dijk has shown no sign of slowing down at 33 years of age and has signalled he wants to continue as captain for the foreseeable future, while at 32 Salah is having the season of his career so far and has pushed his way firmly into the Ballon d'Or conversation.
Alexander-Arnold's status as a homegrown star will make his likely departure on a free galling for fans, but for the next year or two and despite his exceptional playmaking skills it is Salah and Van Dijk who at least appear as though they would be harder to replace.
