Liverpool’s January transfer window has so far been solely focused on potential outgoings at the club.

The Reds don’t tend to do huge amounts of business in the winter window but that is in danger of changing in 2025.

Liverpool are fending off interest from Real Madrid in Trent Alexander-Arnold, with focus at Anfield rightly on keeping the right-back out of the Spanish giant’s clutches.

However, while Liverpool wait on Alexander-Arnold’s decision, they should also be casting an eye over how they can improve their current squad this month.

With Arne Slot having led the team to the top of the Premier League table, some will argue that not much improvement is needed.

But it’s clear that Liverpool would still like a new midfielder to add to their ranks. And judging by the latest social media activity of Stefan Bajcetic, it looks like that could now come via an internal solution.

Stefan Bajcetic deletes RB Salzburg posts

It was initially a surprise to see Bajcetic head out on-loan to RB Salzburg at the start of the season.

There are very high hopes for the 20-year-old and plenty wanted him to be part of Slot’s Liverpool squad this term.

However, Slot has been proven right on Bajcetic with the Spaniard given the game time he so badly needed after a lengthy injury.

But part of the reason for Bajcetic heading to Salzburg was the presence of former Reds assistant Pep Lijnders as manager. With Lijnders now sacked, there have been question marks over Bajcetic’s future in Austria.

Interestingly, Bajcetic has now fed into that uncertainty by deleting all posts relating to RB Salzburg from his Instagram page.

Where the midfielder previously had a number of photographs of himself playing and training for the Red Bull club, there is now only shots of his personal life, as well as those from Liverpool and Spain U21s.

Is Bajcetic coming back to Liverpool?

With Liverpool still looking slightly light in midfield and Bajcetic having got his match fitness back, it would seem logical to bring Stefan back for the second half of the season.

Although it hasn’t been perfect for him out in Austria, Bajcetic has still shown his quality on a number of occasions this season.

On Thursday there were suggestions that Liverpool are out of the race for Martin Zubimendi, with the Reds now seemingly prioritising a slightly cheaper, more back-up kind of player.

In both of those respects bringing Bajcetic back would look like a good call. By any measure he would improve the options at Slot’s disposal.

This could all be something of nothing, of course. But it does seem a strange move from Bajcetic and perhaps is not one without reason. Let’s wait and see.
