Darwin Nunez’s well-finished opener was followed by a classic Mohamed Salah goal in the second-half, with Manchester City’s loss earlier today ensuring that Liverpool went five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

And one Liverpool player this season has caught the eye of Lucy Ward for all the right reasons.
Ibrahima Konate praised after ‘brilliant’ season with Liverpool
Speaking on TNT Sports coverage of the match, the pundit was full of praise for Ibrahima Konate’s performance for Liverpool against Villa, with Ward also noting how good the French international has been this season as a whole.
Konate is currently in talks to sign a new contract with Liverpool with the £35m centre-back viewed as an important part of the Anfield side’s future, especially with Virgil van Dijk now a target for Saudi Arabian clubs.
And for Ward, the former Leeds United striker was impressed with what she saw from Konate against Villa, with the defender once again showing why he’s one of the most underrated centre-backs in the Premier League for Liverpool.
Ward said when highlighting Konate’s performance against Villa: "Ibrahima Konate is another who has been brilliant so far this season. He’s been revitalised. I think Arne Slot’s set-up has helped him, there’s not as much risk out of possession."

Konate has been an ever-present figure for Liverpool this season under Slot, with the defender enjoying what could end up being his best year yet at Anfield having impressed alongside Van Dijk.
And as a result, the French centre-back has been subject to regular praise from his peers and pundits, with Jamie Carragher lauding Konate after the Liverpool star’s performance against Arsenal earlier this season.
