'Stood out': Neil Mellor blown away by what two 'magnificent' Liverpool players did against Chelsea

Liverpool continue to shine under Arne Slot, with the Reds occupying top spot in the Premier League table after their win over Chelsea.

Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah impressed Troy Deeney in the 2-1 victory at Anfield, with the duo finding the back of the net for Liverpool.

Slot has his team playing superbly all over the pitch, undoubtedly led by a resolute defence that has conceded just three league goals.

No clean sheet was kept against Chelsea, but several forward-thinking players stood up to clinch a huge three points at this stage of the season.

Jones really impressed for Liverpool, with the midfielder enjoying one of his best, if not his best ever display for the club.

Neil Mellor praises Curtis Jones in Liverpool win vs Chelsea

The academy graduate won the penalty that Salah fired home to put the hosts ahead, before scoring the winner after Nicolas Jackson's equaliser.

Jones particularly caught the eye of former Anfield striker Neil Mellor, who said on the Review Show on LFCTV GO: "I thought it was a brilliant game. Chelsea are good this season but it was a great victory for Liverpool.

"What a moment, what a week that was for Curtis. He became a dad for the first time, so many congratulations. He won the penalty and got the winning goal.

"It wasn’t just winning the penalty and scoring the winner, it was his all-round game that stood out. He was magnificent!"

Unlike in many of their previous matches this season, Liverpool were made to work very hard for all three points against Chelsea.

But they stuck together to ultimately get over the line, undoubtedly helped by the superb support of the Anfield crowd.

Mellor also singled out Trent Alexander-Arnold for his efforts against the Blues, saying of the right-back: "Trent was magnificent. He defended really well, was strong and dealt with whatever came up at him.

"Just a top defensive display from him. He was first in terms of tackles won, tackles, interceptions and clearances."

It was indeed another top performance from Alexander-Arnold, who like Jones is a product of the club's academy.

Every single person who played a part in their development can, therefore, be very proud of the duo, particularly given all the money that their latest opponents have spent on players in recent times.
