Liverpool endured a quiet summer transfer window as Arne Slot stuck to his guns and refrained from splashing the cash.

Federico Chiesa was the only player who walked through the door at Anfield, although the Reds did agree a deal in principle to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the summer of 2025.

Slot has now had enough time to evaluate his squad and could look to fine-tune it in the coming months.

And if reports are to be believed, one of their transfer targets is set to be available in January.

Liverpool target Randal Kolo Muani to leave in January

Yesterday, a report from Sky Germany claimed Liverpool are interested in signing Randal Kolo Muani, with the striker falling out of favour under Luis Enrique.

The Reds are well-stacked in attack with six players currently fighting for three spots, so those links came as a bit of a surprise.

But now, Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that the French international will leave in January, with PSG looking for an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy clause inserted.

He wrote on X: “Randal Kolo Muani is set to leave @PSG_inside during the winter transfer window. Concrete talks with potential teams about a loan deal are ongoing. PSG would like to include an obligation to buy.

“Currently, there is a strong chance he will move to the Premier League. Understand Liverpool have gathered information, but nothing further has happened yet.

“Manchester United are monitoring the situation, but #MUFC do not currently expect a transfer to happen in January. Tottenham and RB Leipzig are interested. More teams keen on him.”

Do Liverpool need Kolo Muani?

Since joining PSG for a fee believed to be in the region of £76m last summer, Kolo Muani has flattered to deceive and the current season has been particularly bad for him.

He has scored just twice in all competitions for the Ligue 1 giants and has been frozen out of the squad by Enrique, who looks like he wants to offload him in January.

Liverpool have enough options in attack but even if they didn’t, Kolo Muani’s numbers haven’t been good enough for the Reds to want to take a punt on him midway through the season.

Stranger things have happened in football, but it’ll come as a huge surprise to see the French international move to Anfield in the January transfer window.
