'The best': Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink shares what Mohamed Salah has done at Liverpool that's really impressed him

Mohamed Salah has been the best player in the Premier League by quite some distance this season, with the winger spearheading Liverpool’s title charge seemingly single-handily.
Leading the Premier League goalscoring and assist charts, the Egyptian international is on course for yet another record-breaking year with the Reds, though Salah’s Liverpool future remains up in the air with the attacker’s contract expiring at the end of this season.
With Salah himself posting cryptic messages on social media to Liverpool fans, the 32-year-old seems keen on remaining at Anfield beyond this season, a perhaps obvious fact given how productive the forward has been this season under Arne Slot.
And Premier League legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has now shared what has impressed him most about Salah this season for Liverpool.
Salah lauded for his goalscoring volume for Liverpool as a winger
Speaking to TalkSport, the former Leeds United and Chelsea striker praised Salah for the amount of goals the winger is scoring for Liverpool this season, with the 32-year-old on course to win the Premier League Golden Boot award.
Whilst Erling Haaland is breathing down Salah’s neck with the Manchester City striker seemingly back in scoring form for Pep Guardiola’s side, the Liverpool forward’s ability to grab a goal out of nothing has been a key reason behind the Anfield side’s success this season.

And for Hasselbaink, this ability has made Salah a unique quality in the Premier League, especially for a wide-attacker, who traditionally score fewer goals than their centre-forward counterparts, even in this era of the game.
Hasselbaink said: “Salah is doing the business and he’s doing it week-in week-out at the top. What impresses me is that he’s a wide-player who is scoring that many goals, time and time again. Is he the best [in the world]? It’s hard to say, but he is up there, 100%.”
Could Salah have his most productive season yet at Liverpool?
Salah has been breaking goalscoring and assist records ever since the winger made the £34m move to Liverpool back in 2017, with the former AS Roma star only getting better and better with age.
Mohamed Salah’s 2017/18 stats | Mohamed Salah’s 2024/25 stats [as of Jan 8th] | |
Games played | 52 | 27 |
Goals | 44 | 21 |
Assists | 14 | 17 |
Total goal contributions | 58 | 38 |
And when looking back at Salah’s stats from his best season ever at Liverpool with 58 goal contributions in 52 games, there’s a real chance that the forward could break this tally this campaign with the Reds, with the forward already on 38 in 27 matches.
Indeed, Salah is on course for his best season yet in Liverpool colours, and fans will want to see the forward end the year with a new personal best, silverware and a new contract signed leading into the summer.
