Liverpool ensured they would be clear at the top of the Premier League on Christmas with a thumping win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Chelsea dropping points at Everton earlier in the day meant that the Reds sat one point clear going into the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Still, it’s never an easy game at Spurs and Liverpool knew they would be in for a tough battle in North London.

In the end, the Reds were fantastic for the most part. Six goals, three more Premier League points and another brilliant record for Mohamed Salah.

But as Salah became the first Premier League player ever to hit at least 10 goals and assists by Christmas, the rest of the Liverpool squad were showing up, too.

And according to Michael Owen there was something he really liked the look of in the final third for the Reds.

Michael Owen hails Liverpool decision-making

There will certainly have been a part of Arne Slot that was disappointed at seeing Liverpool concede three at Tottenham.

Yes, they were dominant in all aspects and deservedly ran out clear winners, but they really shouldn’t have let Spurs score three times.

Nevertheless, the positives far outweighed the negatives on a top night for Liverpool in North London.

And speaking to premierleague.com, for Reds striker Owen said that the decision making from Slot’s team was what really set them apart on the day.

“It would have been the opposite if Liverpool had gone in 2-1 ahead they would be very annoyed with themselves after giving Tottenham that lifeline,” the pundit said at half-time.

“The good thing about Liverpool is their decision making.”

Liverpool looking good in the final third

Liverpool knew they might have to give up some chances against Spurs, so it was vital that they were effective in the final third.

Thankfully, they were. Luis Diaz was without a Premier League goal for over three months, but he was back on it in North London.

Dominik Szoboszlai was also key to the attack, getting himself a goal and setting up another for Salah.

Cody Gakpo was the man in the Liverpool front three who didn’t get a goal, but the Dutchman was still a functional player in what was a potent forward line.

More of this going forward with a little more solidity and the Reds will be unstoppable.
