'Their position': How Liverpool feel about Mohamed Salah's contract after Trent Alexander-Arnold bombshell - Romano

Liverpool are set to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also in precarious positions.
The duo both have their contracts up at the end of this season, with Alexander-Arnold’s nearing move to Madrid raising the alarm that both Salah and Van Dijk could also see their deals run out, allowing the pair to depart Liverpool for nothing.
Although Madrid could end up paying Liverpool a fee for Alexander-Arnold, losing Salah and Van Dijk after the England international is simply out of the question for the Reds, with the pair at the peak of their powers under Arne Slot.
Yet Fabrizio Romano has now shared how Liverpool are feeling about Salah and Van Dijk’s contract situations after this week’s bombshell surrounding Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool ‘remain optimisitc’ about Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk staying
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer expert said Liverpool are hopeful that Salah and Van Dijk will sign new contracts despite Alexander-Arnold heading to Madrid, with Romano saying: “Liverpool maintain their position on both Salah and Van Dijk. Liverpool want to extend their contracts and remain optimistic.”
Although Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested that something is going on between Liverpool and Salah behind the scenes, the current trajectory of the Egyptian winger and Van Dijk’s futures appear to be remaining at Anfield.
Indeed, time is running out for Liverpool to strike an agreement with Salah and Van Dijk with the Premier League season ending in just under two months, with the first of two Premier League transfer windows also opening in early June.
And with Alexander-Arnold set to join Madrid, Liverpool fans will hope that announcements can be made soon, with the shadow of Salah and Van Dijk also leaving Merseyside still hovering over the squad despite positive noises coming from the right sources.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk contracts must be announced before the end of the season
Morale amongst Liverpool fans is as low as it has been all season, with this month seeing the Reds crash out of the UEFA Champions League, lose a Carabao Cup final and now lose one of the best players in the Premier League era in Alexander-Arnold.
Indeed, winning the Premier League will gloss over all these problems once the title is confirmed, but Liverpool fans will rightfully demand more after the trophy has been secured, and Salah and Van Dijk signing new contracts will do just that.
The pair have been instrumental in Liverpool’s march to the Premier League, and Salah and Van Dijk putting pen to paper on fresh deals before the season is over will be huge for supporters and their optimism for next season.
