Thiago Alcantara could be set to return to Barcelona in a coaching role in the January transfer window as he works on his career after leaving Liverpool in the summer.
That's according to Marca, who report that a deal for the former Liverpool man could be done in January as Barcelona eye another reunion.
The newspaper explains that Thiago created plenty of expectations at Barcelona in the summer after returning to the club when he left Liverpool.
He hung his boots up in July and was immediately brought into Hansi Flick's coaching set up, becoming one of the more visible faces during the tour of the United States and the weeks that followed.
The short period was 'beneficial for all parties' and the club were happy with him, impressed by the knowledge that the former midfielder brought to the table.
The relationship with the coaching staff was close as they all knew each other too, with Thiago working under Flick at Bayern Munich.
He had to return to England after a month at Ciudad Deportiva, but Barcelona agreed to speak to him later on and now they want to see his return as soon as possible. In fact, the situation could be unlocked in January.
Whether it will be for another short spell, or a more permanent position isn't made clear, although it is likely to be the latter as Barcelona aim to change things up and perhaps solve some of the problems which have crept up on them in recent weeks.
