Liverpool are looking like the team to beat in this season’s Premier League.

The Reds recorded a surprisingly comfortable 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday to move nine points clear at the top of the table.

Another test lies in wait on Wednesday, as Liverpool travel to play Newcastle for an evening kick-off.

With the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park to come on Saturday, it remains to be seen just how much Arne Slot rotates his Liverpool squad for the game.

One player who is certain to start, though, is Caoimhin Kelleher. Slot confirmed on Tuesday that Alisson Becker is not ready to play, meaning that the Irishman will collect his eighth Premier League appearance of the campaign.

Kelleher’s terrific form has meant that Liverpool have not missed Alisson during his more than two months on the side lines. And according to former England goalkeeper Ben Foster, this is a situation completely unique in football history.

Ben Foster says Liverpool have three ‘world-class’ goalkeepers

Nobody at Liverpool should be surprised by Kelleher’s good performances this season.

The Irishman has been a figure of dependability ever since making the step up from the Liverpool academy in 2019.

Nevertheless, Kelleher’s brilliance has certainly caught the eye of the wider football world.

And speaking on his ‘Cycling GK’ podcast, Foster claimed that the 26-year-old is now part of a ‘world-class’ cohort of goalkeepers at Liverpool, including the incoming Giorgi Mamardashvili.

“He has to [get a move to a really good club], that’s it now. He has to,” the pundit said on Kelleher.

“Liverpool are in an unbelievable situation where they’ve got three world-class goalkeepers. They really have. I don’t think there’s ever been a scenario like this before, where they’ve got three world-class goalkeepers.”

Foster predicts Premier League move for Kelleher

Kelleher has proven beyond all doubt this season that he deserves to be a number one starting goalkeeper at a high level club.

And according to Foster, the Ireland international should be looking to make the move to a ‘very good’ Premier League club.

“Kelleher, I don’t think in Arne Slot’s mind is Liverpool’s long-term number one,” he says.

“I don’t know why, but that’s how I see it and I think in the summer he’s going to have to get a move, but it’s going to be a big money move, on a big contract for him and he’s going to get first-team football for a very good Premier League team. That’s how it should go anyway.”

Despite recent links, it has been reported that Chelsea will not move for Kelleher. But if he is to end up remaining in England away from Liverpool, it would surely now have to be at one of the division’s ‘big six.’
