Liverpool came away deservedly beaten during a woeful Carabao Cup final performance against Newcastle on Sunday.

The Reds have looked tired across recent games and put in another limp display to lose at Wembley.

Much of the criticism for the performance should lie squarely at the feet of Arne Slot, who simply has not rotated his Liverpool squad enough throughout the campaign.

Despite plenty of his key men looking leggy for weeks, Slot has not put enough trust in his back-up players.

One of those who has deserved more game time has been Harvey Elliott, who came off the bench to set up Federico Chiesa’s late consolation for Liverpool.

But it seems that Elliott’s cameo came at a cost, with the 21-year-old spotted limping away from Wembley after full-time.

Harvey Elliott limps away from Wembley

Elliott has been a bright spark when coming off the bench for Liverpool over the past few games.

Sunday was another instance of the youngster showing up when the Reds need him. His through ball for Chiesa was perfectly weighted.

There was bad news to come for Elliott, though, who got on the wrong side of the bull-in-a-china-shop that is Joelinton.

Notoriously and at times overly physical, Joelinton put in a disgraceful, rugby-tackle style tackle on Elliott as he broke away with the ball in the dying seconds of the game.

Whether it was due to the Brazilian’s tackle or not, it was not a surprise to see Elliott spotted hobbling away from the stadium.

“Harvey Elliott limps out of Wembley after that nasty tackle on him towards the end,” journalist Lewis Steele posted on X.

What comes next for Liverpool?

Thankfully for Liverpool, there is now a two-and-a-bit week break before they next play again.

The international break and then the FA Cup weekend means the Reds won’t be in action until April 2nd, when they face Everton at Anfield.

That should hopefully give Elliott enough time to recover and be back available.

In the meantime, the No.19 will be going away with England U21s having been named in Lee Carsley’s squad this week.

Perhaps it’d be best for everyone if Harvey takes the next couple of weeks off instead.
