Liverpool and Accrington Stanley are currently locking horns in an FA Cup third-round clash at Anfield.

Arne Slot is taking charge of his first fixture in the competition and is looking to spearhead his side to a win after losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.

The Dutchman has made a raft of changes to his squad, with all eyes on Rio Ngumoha after he was chosen in the starting XI for his full Liverpool debut.

However, a curious claim has emerged about Ibrahima Konate and his potential Liverpool absence from the FA Cup clash.

After the game against Manchester United, Slot suggested that Konate won’t be involved vs Tottenham as he is just making his way back from a knee injury he sustained against Real Madrid in November.

He spent more than a month on the sidelines and was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI for the game against the Red Devils.

The Liverpool boss didn’t keep his word as Konate came on as a second-half substitute against Spurs and was on the pitch when Lucas Bergvall scored the winner.

There were reports that he was set to start against Accrington Stanley, but he has seemingly pulled out in the eleventh hour, although the reason remains unclear.

Journalist Ian Doyle confirmed those claims as he responded to a fan on X when asked if Konate was set to start the game.

He wrote on X: “He was definitely in the line-up me and my colleague misread and then swiftly corrected.”

Liverpool can’t afford another injury to Konate

With Joe Gomez already on the sidelines, another injury to Konate would come as a huge blow to Liverpool.

His niggling injury issues have already been a problem during his time at Anfield, but with Liverpool in the title race this time around, they simply can’t afford to lose him again.

The reason behind his decision to pull out from the squad remains unclear, but Slot is likely to shed some clarity on the matter after the game, so fingers crossed until then.
