Next summer looks like it could be a very interesting one at Liverpool.

The Reds chose to keep things more or less as they were during the off-season this time around, with no major changes to the playing squad.

However, as things stand, that is set to be turned on its head in 2025. Liverpool are currently due to lose Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold on free transfers.

Should that happen, the Liverpool owners with have a huge job on their hands to replace three of the very best players in Reds’ history.

Out of all of them, Alexander-Arnold’s situation is perhaps causing the most anxiety. There’s simply no way that the Liverpool academy graduate should have been allowed to sleep-walk to within months of exiting on a free transfer.

Nevertheless, that is what has happened. And with Real Madrid sniffing around Alexander-Arnold, former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has made a worrying claim.

Jermaine Pennant expresses Trent Alexander-Arnold worry

Despite having represented a whole host of clubs throughout his career, Pennant is a Liverpool supporter these days.

And like every other Liverpool fan, the 41-year-old is desperate for Alexander-Arnold to stay at his hometown club.

But as the days and weeks tick by, the possibility that Trent will depart only grows stronger.

One of the reasons a move to Real Madrid has felt to be appealing to Alexander-Arnold is due to the presence of best friend Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital.

And speaking on TalkSPORT, Pennant has suggested that Bellingham will be texting the Liverpool’s No.66 about joining him at Real.

“If Trent gets the offer that he deserves and he wants from Liverpool, I cannot see him leaving anytime soon,” says the former winger.

“But one thing that worries me is his friendship with Jude Bellingham. That worries me. I am sure his WhatsApp is blowing off saying, ‘Come on, let's get over to Hala Madrid’.”

Liverpool look ahead to Real Madrid date

With all of this talk of Real Madrid coming in for Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool fans will already have one eye on their big Champions League game against Real Madrid.

The Reds face the European champions at Anfield on November 27th in what is set to be a massive fixture.

There has been plenty of history between these two teams in recent years and Liverpool will be desperate to finally get one over on Los Blancos.

That won’t be easy with Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and co coming to Merseyside. But if the Reds can turn Madrid over, maybe it will be a signal to Alexander-Arnold that the grass isn’t always greener.

Until then, no doubt the texts between Jude and Trent will keep on coming. Nervous times ahead.
