Manchester City’s Rodri is on the sidelines with a serious knee injury since September and has been speaking various Spanish outlets in recent days.
The midfielder won the Ballon d’Or last month and his individual success has been one of the main topics of every interview.
On Thursday, the Manchester City star came with the Ballon d’Or award to Cadena Ser’s El Larguero to discuss various topics.
The Spain international arrived at the Etihad from Atlético Madrid in 2019 and has been a key member of Pep Guardiola’s squad since then. His deal lasts until 2027 and was asked whether he intends to finish his playing career in the Premier League.
When responding to that, the 28-year-old stated he’s enjoying life at Manchester City.
“I’m not one to set myself very long-term goals, I’m going day by day, but it could be a possibility to end up there. I love football in England, the club is amazing, not only on a sporting level, but also on a structural level,” he said.
“I’m very comfortable and feel very much loved, but Spain is my country. I’m keeping an eye on La Liga, the level of the teams is growing… I’ve been lucky enough to play in both competitions, to have the best coaches and in that sense I’m very happy.”
Back in July, the Euro 2024 winner ruled out the possibility of joining Real Madrid in the future.
Two months ago, AS reported the player has only two paths for his future; either to sign a new deal at Manchester City or join the Champions League winners.
El Larguero journalist Manu Carreño now asked the former Atlético man whether he would join Real Madrid.
“When Real Madrid call you, the best club in history, the most successful, everything that means… Obviously, it’s an honour and you always have to pay attention, of course,” Rodri explained.
“The rejection of the Ballon d’Or? I don’t know if they [Real Madrid] will go to more galas or not, it depends on them because it is a situation that they take for their reasons, there is no need to think about it any further. They didn’t call to congratulate me.”
