Blue Boys and Girls Face Toffees on Easter Weekend
Both Manchester City teams are set to face Everton this weekend as they try to salvage something from their dismal league seasons. The boys travel down the M62 on Saturday afternoon to face the Everton men's team at Goodison Park while the girls welcome their Mersey Blue counterparts on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams are in desperate need of the points to finish as high up the table as possible and they go into the match following poor performances in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
The boys drew 1-1 with the Toffees on Boxing Day as they brought the curtain down on 2024 at the Etihad Stadium. Bernardo Silva gave the Blues the lead in the 14th minute, but despite enjoying the bulk of possession, City couldn't turn their dominance into more goals.
And they were made to pay in the 36th minute when Iliman Ndiaye took advantage of some poor defending from City to claw the visitors level. The Blues had a golden chance to claim the winner when Savinho was brought down inside the penalty area. However, Erling Haaland's penalty was saved by Jordan Pickford and when the striker headed in from Josko Gvardiol's headed pass, it was ruled out for offside.
The girls fared much worse when they faced Everton nine days earlier, when they suffered their first defeat at the hands of the Toffees. Lucy Graham scored a simple header that almost crawled past Khiara Keating and six minutes later, Honoka Hayashi scored to make it 2-0 to the home side.
Everton were cutting through City at will, although the Blues did have a decent appeal for a penalty turned down when it looked like an Everton defender cleared off the line with her hand to keep the Blues at bay.
Both teams had their chances in the second half but when Yui Hasegawa was brought down in the penalty area with two minutes to go, Mary Fowler stepped up to reduce to deficit. But it was too little, too late for the Blues who lost their second match of the season to fall further behind in the title race.
Can our boys and girls each get three points against the Toffees to make it an extra sweet weekend all round?
