Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson expects several of his teammates to not be at the Etihad next season.

The 31-year-old has been speaking to ESPN in Brazil and claims that a cycle is coming to an end at Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola has several first team players who are in their 30s and have contracts expiring either at the end of this season or in 2026. This includes the Brazil international himself who has 15 months left on his contract.

Manchester City star Rodri suffered a serious knee injury in September and is still on the sidelines. Guardiola has been without Manuel Akanji and John Stones since February and Nathan Aké joined the centre-back duo in the treatment room at the start of March.

The Citizens were active in the winter market, signing five new players, of which four were for the first team. Ederson has welcomed Manchester City’s decision to invest in the last window.

“We needed reinforcements because we had a lot of injuries during the season, which has been a lot of games, very tiring for some players. When you start the season with this load, the risk of injury is almost 100%. So, I see the reinforcements as very positive,” he said.

“It’s good to bring in these young players, to plan for the future, because there are a lot of players who are already at the end of their cycle at City, so I think it’s always welcome, good new options to start planting the seeds of the future.”

Omar Marmoush, 25, arrived at Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt. He was the oldest among the new players who joined the Premier League club in January. Ederson claims Guardiola’s squad needed “freshening up” with young players.

Vitor Reis joined the English club from Palmeiras in the January window. The 19-year-old centre-back hasn’t cemented his place at Manchester City, but the goalkeeper backs him to have a bright future.

“Vitor is a very talented player with a very promising future. We talk every day, we are always together, me, him, Savinho and Matheus Nunes,” Ederson explained.

“He is very promising. It is difficult to put a 19-year-old defender straight into the Premier League, especially at City. But he has already played a few games and performed very well. I see him as a great future for City’s defence.”
