Blues Face 2023 Loser In Champions League Opener

The Champions League returns to Manchester City on Wednesday night and the Blues begin their quest for a second victory as they host Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium. With the new format of the league, it will be important for the Blues to get off to a winning start against the Italian side.

They face the side they beat in the 2023 final in Istanbul and Inter will no doubt be looking for a modicum of revenge in Manchester.

As always, our team are here to give us their thoughts, opinions and predictions for the first match of the European adventure.

Saul

First UCL game at home, tough match but the team should be up for it as should the crowd. 3-1 Win.

City 3-1 Inter Milan

Will

City's performance against Brentford wasn't one that'll take its place in the hall of fame (in fact, Guardiola said he'd never seen such a poor performance from his team inside the opening half an hour) but it sets them up nicely for their match against Inter this week.

I'd expect we'll see Rodri, Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva all start, which should elevate their performance levels as good as their alternatives are. It'll be a good opportunity for some of the players who have started the season well, namely Jack Grealish, Savinho and Rico Lewis to stake a final claim to start against Arsenal this weekend.

Therefore, I expect a win for the Blues. They may ship goals due to the threat their opponents pose on the counter but I expect them to continue looking a threat going forward and for Haaland to score his 100th City goal as a part of a high scoring win.

City 4-2 Inter Milan

Thomas

City welcome Internazionale to the Etihad to get the UEFA Champions League underway. It's a new format, but an opponent that will bring back the fondest of memories for the Manc Blues. Inter have yet to lose in domestic play. They've won twice at home without conceding and drawn twice away. It's a step up in competition in this one and City's home ground is a fortress. I like City to reinforce their place as favourites to win the Cup. Give me a Rodri rocket for the vibes.

City 1-0 Inter Milan

Pete

City often get off to a narrow start in the opening Champions League match and I don't think this will be any different. Inter will be well organised and ready to hit City on the counter. It won't be easy but the Blues should get the job done.

City 2-1 Inter Milan

Last Time Out

City narrowly beat Brentford at the weekend after going a goal down before many had finished their pre-match pints. They had to rely on Erling Haaland to grab another brace and maintain City's 100% start.

And our team have turned into a bunch of mystics. For the first time, three of our guys got a perfect score with Will and Thomas both getting it right two weeks running. Here's the table:
