Psychiatrist moves to ease Pep Guardiola fears – Manchester City boss hasn't "lost his mind"

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is not showing signs he's lost his temper or is suffering mental anguish, despite his recent appearance in front of the cameras.
That's according to Enric Armengou, professor of psychiatry at the Abat CEU University in Barcelona, who has today been consulted by Mundo Deportivo regarding the Manchester City boss.
Guardiola sparked concern this week when he appeared in front of the media covered in scratches on his head and with a bloody cut on his nose after the 3-3 draw with Feyenoord.
He laughed off his appearance in his subsequent interviews, quipping about 'self-harm' caused by an overly long nail.
He was later forced to issue a statement about that apologising to anyone offended, insisting that he had not intended to 'make light of the very serious issue of self-harm'.
Nonetheless the image of the bloodied and scratched Manchester City manager clearly sparked concern, with many fearing for his mental health as his side extended their run of games without a win to six.
The Catalan finds himself in his toughest period as Manchester City manager since his arrival, with the 3-3 draw this week preceded by defeats to Tottenham, Bournemouth, Sporting Club de Portugal and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Armengou wants to allay any fears and insists that, from his professional point of view, there's nothing untoward going on with Guardiola.
"What happened with Guardiola speaks of the level of anxiety he has, but it is a specific event in moments of maximum tension,” he said.
“His behaviour was that of a man who is at his limit and regulated himself by hurting himself. Others might throw their notebook against the bench or kick a bottle.
“We should not give the matter greater significance because it was a moment of anger, which has no signs, due to the known antecedents, that it is a trend, so it should not be a problem.
“You cannot blame him for lack of sensitivity with problems of this type, he simply expressed himself with irony.
“I don’t think we can talk about a problem of that kind (loss of self-control). It would be excessive, otherwise we would see him with that behaviour in other areas. He is a man who lives the matches with intensity, but we have no evidence that he has ever lost his mind.”
