Liverpool are the new favourites to win the Premier League after Manchester City’s latest defeat to Brighton, according to Opta’s supercomputer.

Despite starting the season under new management, Liverpool have set a ferocious early pace under Arne Slot with 28 points out of a possible 33.

The Reds cruised to a 2-0 home win against Aston Villa and now sit five points clear at the top of the table after City slipped up against Brighton earlier on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead through Erling Haaland but fell to their fourth successive defeat in all competitions after second-half goals from Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley.

Arsenal, meanwhile, picked up a much-needed point away at Chelsea on Sunday but sit below their London rivals in fourth and a concerning nine points behind Liverpool as the league enters its third international break.

Opta's supercomputer simulates the remainder of the season 10,000 times and as it stands, it now gives Liverpool a 60.3% chance of winning the league.

That percentage marks a staggering increase from pre-season when Slot’s side were given just a 5.1% chance of winning the league title before a ball was kicked.

City are now second favourite to defend the title and have seen their chances drop sharply from 82.2% in pre-season to 34.3% after gameweek 11.

Arsenal have also seen their hopes of claiming a first league title since 2004 take a dip, with the Gunners now given just a 5% chance of coming out on top at the end of the season – a 7.2% decrease from the start of the campaign.

Should they go on to upset the odds, Arteta’s side would break Blackburn Rovers’ record for the largest points deficit overturned after 11 league matches.

Liverpool return from the international break with a trip to Southampton before hosting City at Anfield in a huge mid-season title face-off.

Speaking after their win against Villa, Slot insisted his side would not get ahead of themselves, especially given the quality of the chasing pack.

‘It's not sure yet in this league because Arsenal, City, Chelsea, all these clubs that are playing in this league, they are able to win so many games as well and that's what they have shown in the last few seasons,’ the Dutchman said.

‘So, we are only focused on ourselves and then a win against a very good team like Villa, who have done so well in the last few years, is always important.’
