Manchester United lacked grit and solidarity under Erik ten Hag’s guidance as a result, the Dutch boss failed to help the Red Devils progress despite guiding them to win two cup competitions.

The situation remained the same in the first few games under new head coach, Ruben Amorim. But, in the last two matches, they have shown clear signs of improvement on this front.

Man Utd managed to come away with a draw against Liverpool despite trailing at one stage at Anfield, and they defeated Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup third-round fixture last weekend despite playing with a man down for almost an hour.

Amorim will have to rebuild United’s squad to help the club fight for big prizes consistently and midfield is an area where they will have to sign new faces if Casemiro and Christian Eriksen eventually leave the club.

Amorim’s side are said to be open to cashing-in on the Brazilian following his disappointing displays in recent campaigns, while Eriksen's existing deal will expire at the end of this season.

It has recently been reported that Man Utd have been handed an opportunity to sign Juventus' Douglas Luiz to bolster the engine room. Now, Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web state that the Brazilian is willing to move to a top club like United.

Manchester City, Fulham and Nottingham Forest are also interested in him but the player doesn’t want to join the Cottagers or the Tricky Trees.

He would be ready to sign for the Citizens. The player’s agent has already travelled to Italy to talk with the midfielder to find a new club for him.

Although Man Utd are a big club, their on-field displays haven’t been upto the mark this season. Fulham have accumulated 7 points more than them, while Forest have 17 points more and are currently in the top three.

Luiz – who currently earns £134,000-a-week in salary at Allianz Stadium – displayed excellent performances for Aston Villa last term. However, since moving to Italy, he hasn’t been able to secure his place in Thiago Motta’s starting Xl.

Kobbie Mainoo and Manual Ugarte have been the first-choice midfield partnership for United this season but the Englishman is still very young and his minutes need to be managed to help him reach his full potential. Luiz's potential arrival would help Amorim to do that.
