Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League last term and this was their lowest finish in the PL era.
When they started the new campaign, it was thought that they couldn’t become any worse and things would go upwards this term.
News – Report – Amorim ready to agree deal with £9.8million a year Man Utd star
However, Man Utd have had a dire first half of this season, languishing 14th in the league with 22 points from 18 games, sitting only eight points above of the relegation zone.
Now, Ruben Amorim’s side will entertain in-form Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the Premier League tonight.
As per team news, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount aren’t in contention to feature due to injury problems.
Moreover, Bruno Fernandes picked up a red card against Wolves last time out so he is suspended for this game. Manuel Ugarte is also suspended having picked up fifth booking of this season on Boxing Day.
It remains to be seen whether Marcus Rashford – who hasn’t been named in the matchday squad in the last four consecutive games – gets involved tonight.
Expected Man Utd starting XI vs Newcastle
Andre Onana should keep hold of his place in the goal, while Lisandro Martínez is set to continue in the LCB position. Matthijs de Ligt could get the nod to start in CCB position ahead of Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui may complete the back three. Leny Yoro would have to settle for a place on the bench.
Antony could be deployed in the RWB role, while Diogo Dalot might be on the opposite side.
Amid Ugarte's absence, Casemiro should start in the CDM role and alongside him, Kobbie Mainoo is likely to commence. Christian Eriksen would likely be on the bench.
Amad Diallo is expected to continue in one of the AM positions, while Joshua Zirkzee might be deployed alongside the former Atalanta star in the absence of Bruno. Rasmus Hojlund would be leading the line. Here’s the expected Man Utd starting XI vs Newcastle:
