Manchester United do not have long left in the transfer window in January even if they wish to reinforce the squad.

Throughout this month, they have been linked with a transfer for a number of players with nothing really materializing as of yet.

That said, the Red Devils are surely expected to be one of the busier clubs in whatever is left of this window.

The issue for Man Utd has been the fact that they haven’t yet made enough sales yet to fund potential new signings. It is always difficult to both buy and sell in January, unless the club’s name is Manchester City.

One position that Man Utd desperately need to reinforce is the left wing-back position. It has been an area of concern for the club for the better part of two seasons now. Luke Shaw playing five games in a row seems impossible at the moment and Tyrell Malacia seems to have regressed as well.

Diogo Dalot has done a good job so far on the left side but there is only so much a right-footed left wing-back can do.

It comes with its own set of limitations. Thus, signing a player for this position is imperative. Now, as per Fabrizio Romano, Lecce starlet Patrick Dorgu is ready to agree a move to Old Trafford.

The Italian journalist revealed that Man Utd’s first formal bid for the youngster was €27m plus add-ons which Lecce do not deem sufficient.

CorSport (via Sports Witness) have also revealed that the player has reached a basic agreement with the English club but Lecce are not happy with the amount that Man Utd are offering at the moment and also want to have him on loan until the end of the season.

TF View:

Dorgu might have played much of this season as a right winger but he broke through playing on the left side of defense last campaign. That is ideally where Ruben Amorim will be looking to use him at Old Trafford, because that is a position that the team really lacks at the moment.

The talented youngster could make use of his experience playing in attack and be the perfect wing-back in Amorim’s setup.

This is exactly what Man Utd want a player who can bombard forward with regularity but at the same time, ensure that he can track back and help out defensively and Dorgu fits the bill.

It remains to be seen if Man Utd manages to secure some kind of agreement to bring the £33.7million to England.

A deal makes the most sense on paper and this would be a no-brainer for the Red Devils. Let’s wait and see how they go about making it happen.
