Manchester United desperately need an elite striker to either replace or complement Rasmus Hojlund given the Dane’s form this season.

The 22-year-old finally ended his 99-day Premier League goalscoring drought before the international break and in general, has looked poor when it comes to his hold up play.

His penchant for backing into defenders instead of using his smarts has been rightly criticised and his displays have just gone to show how Ruben Amorim needs a proven goalscorer in the summer.

Ideally, he would like to reunite with his Sporting CP protege Viktor Gyokeres with the Portuguese demanding INEOS to sign the Swede.

Gyokeres turned down United in January

But as revealed by Football Transfers, the former Coventry City man turned down a move to Old Trafford during the winter transfer window.

And journalist Duncan Castles reckons the 26-year-old will not be joining the Red Devils in the summer as well as he is currently eyeing a move to a club where he can win trophies.

“Viktor Gyokeres rejected a transfer to Manchester United in January as he wants his next transfer to be a club where he can prove his credentials and win trophies, The Transfers Podcast has been told.

“He wants to go to a club where he can prove himself, where he can win trophies, and his assessment of where Manchester United are at the moment is that is not the option to take in a summer where he’ll be turning 27,” Castles was quoted as saying.

“He’s going to look at the clubs that are making him offers and pick the one that he thinks is the best place to demonstrate his time in England in the lower division and at Brighton weren’t an accurate representation of his abilities as a player, and that what he’s done in Portugal can be replicated in the English League or elsewhere in Europe.

Doesn’t want summer move

“He will be available this summer," Castles added. "Sporting have a gentleman’s agreement that he can leave for around €80m. What I’m hearing is that his agents will try and push that fee down to €60-70m.”

Gyokeres has a remarkable 40 goals and 10 assists in 41 games this season, which just highlights what a ruthless finisher he is. But as relayed previously by The Peoples Person, the Swedish international wants to play in the Champions League.

And unless the 20-time English league champions win the Europa League this term, that dream will not become a reality.

While Castles is not exactly known for his accurate information, he is often spot-on when it comes to information out of Portugal. But fans and Amorim still believe they can win the Europa League this season so nothing can be ruled out just yet.

United also have Victor Osimhen on their list while plenty of cost-effective options are also being kept on standby just in case.
