Andre Onana has urged Manchester United to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy at the club following Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Van Nistelrooy was brought in as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff in the summer and has been placed in interim charge following United’s decision to sack the Dutchman last week.

The former United striker guided the team to a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League on Wednesday evening and will be in the dugout for one final time on Sunday afternoon when United host Leicester City at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

When asked if he has received clarity over his future at United after the win against PAOK, Van Nistelrooy told TNT Sports: ‘Not yet. Patience, patience.’

But United goalkeeper Onana believes the squad will benefit if Van Nistelrooy remains in a coaching role when Amorim takes at the start of next week.

Asked if United’s players want Van Nistelrooy to remain at the club, Onana told TNT Sports: ‘100 per cent.

‘He’s a very good guy, a very good coach. Since he’s here, he’s helping us a lot.

‘He has so much experience and he advises us a lot. He’s doing amazing since he’s here, you know. Obviously, we have him a few days as a head coach. He's different, but he’s doing amazing. It's fantastic what he's doing and the players are happy.

‘But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide. The club made the decision and we have to accept it.

‘But this has to be between him and the club because at the end of the day, they are the ones who have to sit at the table and decide what is best for the club.’
