Former Premier League striker turned pundit Alan Shearer has cast his Manchester United vs Chelsea predictions for today as we preview the biggest fixture in the Premier League this weekend.

Manchester United host Chelsea having fired Erik ten Hag on Monday. Although Ruben Amorim has since been appointed head coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain interim manager for the next three games.

Saturday saw several surprising results in the Premier League, showing how unpredictable this league can be and how strong many lesser teams are.

Man City suffered a defeat to Bournemouth, Arsenal lost against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest beat West Ham. The last result mentioned did United a favour as we moved up to 13th without playing a game.

Today will certainly be another unpredictable clash, with United in poor form but looking to bounce back with a new manager bounce. It bodes well that we tucked away Leicester City with a 5-2 win in the Carabao Cup under the Dutchman on Wednesday night.

"When a manager leaves and another comes in, there'll be a different atmosphere, a renewed hope and belief at Old Trafford on Sunday, with or [Ruben] without Amorim, especially after Man United scored five goals in the Carabao Cup," Shearer told the Metro.

"I was at St James' for Chelsea's trip in midweek, and it was a completely changed team from the league game between the two, and the side he puts out against Man United will be different again. It's a tough one to call and probably why I'll go for a score draw. I fancy both teams to score because both teams can improve defensively, and the added detail of a new manager in the dugout at Old Trafford for the first in the Premier League, whether that's Ruben or Ruud, means Man Utd can get something out of this game."

Van Nistelrooy is without no fewer than seven players as United welcome Chelsea at Old Trafford, and they know they face a much sterner test than Leicester City posed midweek.

A point at home to Chelsea isn't the world result in the world, but the problem we have is that we're playing catch up with the rest after such a slow start to the campaign. That is why Van Nistelrooy will be under pressure to win his matches as interim manager and it would make life a little easier of Amorim, too.
