Manchester United splashed almost £600m over the last few transfer windows to help Erik ten Hag rebuild a squad that can win major silverware consistently.

The Dutchman guided the Red Devils to win two domestic cup competitions in back-to-back seasons but overall, he couldn’t manage to help United progress.

News – Man Utd now ready to sell £36.5m flop to sign £63m star – Report

Most of the new acquisitions Man Utd made under him turn out to be unsuccessful with Antony being one of them.

They splashed over £85m to lure him from Ajax Amsterdam back in 2022 and he even enjoyed a stellar start at Old Trafford, scoring in the first three consecutive games.

However, he has turned out to be a major flop and has found himself on the periphery in the last two campaigns. Things remain the same under new manager, Ruben Amorim.

He has made only three starts in all competitions thus far this term, scoring a solitary goal – which came from the penalty spot against Barnsley.

Now, Spanish source state that Amorim has made it clear to the Brazilian that he doesn’t count on him so he is now forced to leave the club. Real Betis have registered their interest in signing him and are prepared to make a big splash to hire him in the winter.

Betis have already initiated negotiations to get the deal done with the player open to moving to the Andalusian side but the forward’s high wage could prevent the move from happening.

The South American currently earns around £200,000-a-week in salary and has a contract until 2027 at Old Trafford.

Man Utd have endured a dire first half of this season and Amorim must reinforce the squad in January to turn the situation around.

He has recently said that the club don’t have money available to spend in January unless they raise funds by selling some stars. So, if Antony eventually leaves then that would generate money for Man Utd to reinforce.
