Manchester United have not had many things to smile about in the past few years, as the club continues to grapple with uncertainties during the Erik ten Hag era.

However, there have been a couple of players who have given them a reason to smile.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have been two starlets who have emerged as a silver lining among the severely dark clouds at the club. The latter in particular has had such an impressive induction to first-team football.

Such has been Mainoo’s meteoric rise to stardom that he was called up to the Euros squad by Gareth Southgate where he even got a starring role as the tournament went on. If he continues in a similar way, the sky is the limit for him.

As per Manchester Evening News, Man Utd are closing in to give Kobbie Mainoo a well-deserved wage bump and sign him to a new contract at the club. The 19-year-old is currently on measly wages and deserves to be paid much better.

The youngster earns around £520,000 a year on his current contract with the Red Devils. He has emerged as one of the most important members of the squad and there is no doubt that his new contract will reflect that status.

The teenager so far has looked at home on the biggest stage in club football. However, Mainoo is still a developing figure and Man Utd need to be careful not to give him over and beyond and take the player into a new direction.

It is important to understand how to deal with the fame and riches that come with a breakthrough campaign such as Mainoo’s.

The 19-year-old seems to have a calm head on his shoulders and let’s hope he takes the wage bump in the right sense and continues to work hard going forward.
