Real Madrid have been credited with interest in Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes.
At the weekend, claims from the UK reported Real Madrid scouts followed the midfielder in almost every fixture recently. It was also stated Los Blancos are eyeing a £90m move for the 30-year-old to replace Luka Modrić.
These claims have reached the Spanish media, especially Cope‘s Tiempo de Juego, where journalist Paco González gives his take on the Manchester United star joining Real Madrid in the summer window.
Modrić’s contract expires at the end of this season. If he were to leave Real Madrid, Paco González claims the Portugal international is unlikely to replace him.
“Today they published in England that Real Madrid wants Bruno Fernandes and has made an offer of £90m. He’s 30 years old, he’s very good,” he said.
“Maybe many teams ask for a pass to watch a game, but maybe it’s a scout that Real Madrid has for England or a man going to see someone else.”
Over the past few years, Real Madrid, led by their president, Florentino Pérez, have paid big money for young talents. Taking this into account, the journalist insists it’s unlikely for the Champions League winners to the Manchester United captain.
“But for a 30-year-old guy, Madrid paying 90 million, knowing the calculations Florentino Pérez has in his head, that signings have to be paid off and they have to be young, seems impossible to me. If they’re free, I mean, if they arrive for free, yes. If not, well, no way,” González explained.
The journalist said “I don’t believe it at all” about these claims from the UK linking him to Real Madrid. This should come as encouragement for Manchester United to hold on the star.
Fernandes has starred for the Red Devils this season, managing 16 goals and 16 assists from 44 games.
