Former Manchester United forward Largie Ramazani has agreed to join their arch-rivals Leeds United this summer.

As is the case every year, United have parted ways with several academy stars this summer, selling the likes of Willy Kambwala and Alvaro Fernandez Carreras to Villarreal and Benfica respectively. They have also released much-talked-about talents like Brandon Williams and Omari Forson.

Such is the connection between United fans and the academy that even when players are no longer linked with the club, supporters follow their journey with keen interest, hoping they develop well and drive their new clubs to success.

However, there are a few rare moves that force United fans to reconsider their stance.

Ramazani, who made his senior debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019, took a bold step to part ways with United at the end of the same season in search of regular first-team football.

The highly-rated Belgian youngster agreed to join Spanish second-division outfit UD Almeria on a five-year deal.

He eventually helped the club earn promotion to La Liga. Ramazani’s goal against Real Madrid earlier this year was celebrated by plenty of United fans on social media.

The 23-year-old was not able to stop Almeria from getting relegated last term, but his performances did enough to attract interest from plenty of clubs. He was directly involved in nine goals across all competitions.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds have won the race for Ramazani’s signature, having agreed a deal worth €11.7m including add-ons.

Almeria also included a sell-on clause worth 15 per cent. The transfer is expected to be wrapped up quickly, with medicals already booked, as per the Italian transfer expert.

Since United released the player, they are highly unlikely to benefit from this move.

However, Ramazani’s transfer to their fierce rivals will certainly raise plenty of eyebrows among the United fanbase, who are unlikely to cheer for their former academy star this while.
