Manchester United are a club that are linked with a number of players on a daily basis. However, very few of these players actually turn into concrete approaches.

There are a few names that keep doing the rounds regularly with regards to the club, some even for seasons. Yes, Frenkie de Jong, we are talking about you!

One name that has been heavily linked with a move to Man Utd in the recent past is Barcelona superstar Ronald Araujo.

The Uruguayan center-back has received interest from the English club for quite some time now and with his contract at the Spanish club fast expiring, the links only keep intensifying.

Back in the summer, it had emerged that Manchester United were willing to double the wages to convince the 25-year-old to make the move to Old Trafford. It was even being claimed that a fee of around £63.5m should convince the cash-strapped Barcelona to sell him.

However, with the player suffering a serious injury on international duty at the Copa America, the talks died down. Araujo is yet to make his return to football as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Now, as per Caught Offside, Man Utd still remain keen on signing Ronal Araujo and could finally make a move for the South American.

Do Man Utd need to sign Ronald Araujo?

In the summer just gone by, Man Utd signed two new center-backs – Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. With Lisandro Martinez also at the club, the Red Devils are blessed with three quality options for the present and the future. Signing Araujo would require a significant investment and hence, might not be justified.

There is no doubt that Araujo is a Rolls Royce defender. When fit and at his best, he would give the likes of Virgil van Dijk and William Saliba a run for their money.

Everything points towards him going down as one of the best in his position, fitness permitting. He is a throwback to the older school of defenders and a beast in one-on-one situations (ask Vinicius Jr.)

Although it would be an excellent addition to the squad, Manchester United have so many holes to fill and cannot afford to pay such a fee for a position where they are relatively well stacked.

Araujo too seems to love Barcelona and desire to stay here and it would be a huge surprise if the Red Devils manage to sign him. Let’s wait and see how it goes.
