Manchester United have endured a horrid start to the season with just three wins from nine games across all competitions so far this season and Erik ten Hag is under immense pressure to keep his job after a summer of massive backing.

The Dutch head coach has not got his tactics right so far and his new signings have had middling impacts. Noussair Mazraoui, after a good start has faded off. Matthijs de Ligt has been very steady but not spectacular.

Joshua Zirkzee has blown hot and cold – more cold than hot and Manuel Ugarte is yet to settle in. Against Tottenham last weekend, Ange Postecoglou’s team rolled over Man Utd even when the game was played at 11vs11 and only asserted their monopoly once United went down to 10.

This has prompted to speculation that Erik ten Hag might be given the sack soon. As per Football Insider, one of the front-runners to replace him should the Dutch coach be sacked is ex-Juventus manager Massimilano Allegri and Man Utd are planning talks with him.

The Italian manager, who is a serial winner in his career is currently out of a job after being let go by the Old Lady at the end of last season.

Allegri could instil the winning mentality at Man Utd should he be given the chance.

The other managers in the fray are Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate. The former is waiting for a job after his largely disastrous Bayern stint while the latter needs no introduction.

He is also a free agent now after his impressive but trophyless stint with the Three Lions.

It does look likely that Man Utd would give Ten Hag a longer rope to turn the situation around. If not, they have enough options to look at. Of the three, Tuchel might be the best bet for the kind of football we aspire to play and let’s see how it goes.
