The left-back situation at Manchester United has been a struggle so far, especially in the last couple of seasons.

Both players meant to play in that position – Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have not managed to stay fit.

Shaw has been in and out. When fit, not many left-backs can hold a candle to the Englishman but his physical condition has been a huge letdown throughout his career. Had he remained fit, he might have been one of the best left-backs of his generation.

For the past season and a half, Erik ten Hag has almost exclusively used Diogo Dalot as the left-back. The Portuguese defender does a good job in the new role. However, not being naturally left-footed comes with its own set of limitations.

This could prompt Manchester United to look into the market for a new left-back. As per TDF, Man Utd are ready to offer a blank cheque to tempt Alphonso Davies to choose Old Trafford over Madrid as his next destination.

Davies is in the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and currently earns around £180,000 a week. If he is joining Manchester United on a free transfer, there is no doubt that he will want a significant wage bump to be on board.

While a blank cheque might be an exaggeration, what this basically means is that the Red Devils are willing to go over and beyond. To convince him to turn down Real Madrid, Manchester United will have to make a ludicrous offer.

What the Canadian brings to the table is incredible. His pace is explosive and he can define the left-back position for a decade to come. Alphonso Davies can be the perfect alternative to Luke Shaw at Man Utd and let’s wait and see how this transfer saga pans out.
