In the summer transfer window, Manchester United splashed the cash to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich to reinforce the right back position.

Last term, Dalot was the first choice right back but the Portuguese has mainly featured in the LB role this term as Shaw and Malacia remain injury prone.

If reports in the media are anything to go by the Red Devils are still looking to add another right back and once again, the name of Jeremie Frimpong is in the focus.

According to an exclusive story covered by Football Insider, Man Utd are keen on beating their fiercest rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City to secure the signing of Frimpong.

In Dalot and Mazraoui, United do have decent right backs but they are good defenders, who are not world class going forward.

Frimpong is one of the best, if not the best, attacking fullbacks in the world. Last season, he mainly featured in the right wingback role, scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen.

His current contract with the German champions will expire in 2028 and it has a release clause of £35million.

Can Man Utd beat Man City and Liverpool to sign Frimpong?

Since the appointment of Erik ten Hag, a number of Dutch stars have moved to Old Trafford even without Champions League football.

In the summer, United were able to lure Oranje players, Zirkzee from Bologna and De Ligt from Bayern Munich. So, convincing Frimpong might not be an issue for Ten Hag, should he remain at Old Trafford in the coming months.

However, Liverpool offer a better sporting project at the moment and also have Dutchman in the managerial hot-seat in the form of Arne Slot.

The likes of Gravenberch and Netherlands captain, Van Dijk, could persuade the Bundesliga star to move to Anfield.

Not to forget, he currently plays under Reds legend, Xabi Alonso, who would surely tell him that Anfield is a better place.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months.
