Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez was withdrawn from Argentina's squad for this international break after scans on a hip problem.

That's according to La Nacion, who say the World Cup winners elected not to take a risk with the defender after doing addition scans on him following the injury picked up in Manchester United's win over Leicester City.

Argentina announced earlier today that Martínez had withdrawn from international duty and would be replaced by Facundo Medina.

The newspaper reports that Martínez underwent scans by Argentina this week to determine the extent of a problem after being caught in the hip by a knee against Leicester on Sunday.

He managed to get through that game and play the 90 minutes, but the later scans have seemingly revealed a bigger problem after the defender complained of 'discomfort' according to D Sports.

They add that Martínez had been unable to 'function normally' since picking up the injury and thus, following further tests, Argentina decided to release him and send him back to Manchester United.

United will now, presumably, conduct their own tests and hope Martínez will be fit and ready for the start of Ruben Amorim's reign after the international break.
