Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling will only proceed with a potential transfer to Manchester United once his contractual situation with the Blues is resolved.

Sterling’s time with Chelsea seems to be over having fallen out of favour under Enzo Maresca. The Chelsea boss has not included Sterling in any of his squads since the start of the season as he recently admitted that the player is not his preferred type of winger.

Amidst Chelsea’s interest in Jadon Sancho, the possibility of a swap deal that would see Sterling join Erik ten Hag’s ranks has been mooted.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sterling would not turn down the opportunity to play for United, despite his affiliations with Manchester City.

During his stay at the Etihad, Sterling won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup and five EFL Cups.

The primary obstacle preventing the England international from completing a move to Old Trafford seems to be his substantial £325,000-per-week salary.

According to The Telegraph, while Sterling is open to signing for United, nothing will happen on this front until clarity is provided over his contractual situation.

The newspaper reveals, “Raheem Sterling would consider a move to Manchester United but will not press ahead with a transfer from Chelsea until he has held further discussions with the club about his contractual situation.”

“The 29-year-old's deal at Chelsea guarantees to earn him some £40 million over the coming three seasons so he could sacrifice tens of millions of pounds if he joins a team that does not match his current wages and contract length.”

It’s understood that talks are set to take place in the coming days. These negotiations will centre on issues such as whether the Blues would play some of the forward’s salary to facilitate a loan move.

The Telegraph add, “Only after progress is made on the issue will the winger hold formal negotiations with interested clubs.”

Sterling is thought to have been a “massive” supporter of United as a child.

Last term, he made 31 Premier League appearances for Chelsea. He scored eight goals and registered half as many assists in that time.
