Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim would have been hoping to get his Old Trafford career off to a better start but for every one step they have taken forward since the Portuguese manager arrived, it seems to be followed by two steps back.
Amorim’s best moment as Red Devils boss so far this season must be the thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester City.

However, that proved to be just another false start, as things have gone downhill ever since.
As per today’s version of Superdeporte (press image at the end), Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim is ‘willing to break’ the non-aggression pact to sign his former Sporting CP star, Viktor Gyokeres, despite previously claiming that he would not sign him in January.
Man Utd are preparing to open the door for the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho and such a mass clear-out of the attack would mean reinforcements are the order of the day.
Amorim has probably realised that the best way to accelerate his project is by picking players who are already comfortable playing in a 3-4-3 system. If he signs them from Sporting, they would be very familiar with the manager as well.
Gyokeres has had a phenomenal 2024. He has put up numbers that rank him among the very best in Europe and it is only a matter of time before he gets his big money, high profile move.
However, Sporting might be reluctant to let him leave in January.
Valued at around £63m, signing the Swedish striker would be a smart piece of business for the club.
However, should Man Utd land Gyokeres, Amorim would become someone who went back on his word, perhaps, he just has to.
