Teddy Sheringham claims Sir Alex Ferguson would 'boot Man Utd star out the door'

Sir Alex Ferguson would ‘boot’ one Manchester United player ‘out the door’ if he was still in charge of the club, according to Teddy Sheringham.
Ferguson established himself as one of the greatest managers of all-time during his 27-year spell at United, lifting 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
His man-management has been commended by former players but Fergie was also known for being ruthless and Sheringham says he would not have stood for Marcus Rashford’s admission that he wants out.
Rashford admitted last month that he felt ‘ready for a new challenge’, having stagnated at his boyhood club over the past two seasons.
After being left out of the Manchester derby by new Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim, Rashford said: ‘If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse.
‘I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.
‘When I leave it’s going to be “no hard feelings”. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.
‘For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.’
Sheringham insists Rashford’s days as a Manchester United player are ‘numbered’ and says he would have been ‘booted out’ already if Sir Alex was still at the helm.
Asked where he thinks Rashford should go to revive his career, Sheringham told OLBG: ‘I don’t know and I don’t really care.
‘I think the way he’s come out and said that he’s ready for a new challenge is beyond me.
‘You used to get foreigners coming into England saying that sort of thing and people think, “yeah, okay”.
‘However, when it's one of your own from Manchester; a Manchester boy that should understand the privilege it is to play for Manchester United and where you’re at when you’re playing for Manchester United.
‘Every player in the world growing up still wants to play for Manchester United and he’s saying now that he wants a new challenge somewhere.
‘I don’t understand it. Fergie would've booted him out the door by now if he’d have said that while he was in his tenure.
‘He’s obviously going to go somewhere, but I think his days are numbered at Man United.’
Rashford has been linked with a a number of Premier League clubs – including Tottenham and West Ham – as well as the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
Amorim’s treatment of Rashford looked questionable as the club endured a dismal period over Christmas, losing to Newcastle United, Wolves and Bournemouth without scoring a goal.
But the Red Devils produced an impressive performance to hold Premier League leaders Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at the start of January and then beat Arsenal on penalties to advance in the FA Cup at the weekend.
‘I think Ruben Amorim has come in and he’s made it quite clear what he's all about,’ said Sheringham, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his spell at Manchester United.
‘I think it’s quite evident the way he’s trying to get his teams playing in the last two games.
‘He had a shocking run before that, but hopefully that was just showing the hierarchy what needed to be done and be changed for the club to get back to where it needs to be.
‘Hopefully that little period is over and now he can improve everybody individually and collectively as a manager. I like what he does.’
Manchester United have the chance to continue their promising run of form as they face bottom-placed Southampton on Thursday night and Brighton at the weekend, both at home.
But ex-England striker Sheringham said: ‘They're both tricky games in their own way.
‘Both are on paper a formality, but that doesn’t happen in football anymore, especially within the Premier League.
‘Southampton should be, I understand that, but Brighton have been very solid this year and they’ve surprised a few in games they've played.
‘I like the way Brighton play their game, so United will have to be on top of their game. It should be a formality, but it doesn’t work like that, does it?’
