Donny van de Beek spent four years at Manchester United before leaving them for Girona on a permanent transfer in the summer window.
The midfielder, who had two short loans spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, made 62 appearances for Manchester United.
Tuesday’s edition of La Razón looks at Girona’s decision to bet on the 27-year-old, who has made eight appearances this season.
Girona initially paid €500,000 for the Dutchman and the fee could rise if he were to do well for them. If the former Ajax star were to fail to impress, the damage will be minimal for them.
Should Van de Beek impress, the newspaper says Girona will have to pay an additional €15m to Erik ten Hag’s side.
The midfielder clocked in 41 minutes of action from his first seven league games, and he was an unused substitute in four of them. The ex-Manchester United man was struggling with a virus, which it’s stated limited his game time. This is now behind him.
Oriol Romeu picked up an injury against Celta Vigo towards the end of September. He was replaced by Van de Beek in the 14th minute and the latter started in the last two La Liga matches.
La Razón haven’t taken into account Van de Beek has got opportunities because of injuries to other players. They add manager Míchel is hoping to get the best out of him, like he did with Daley Blind and Eric García last season.
All parties will be hoping for Van de Beek to do well at Girona. This, in return, would see Manchester United receive more money.
