"You never know" – Álvaro Carreras quizzed on transfer, Manchester United have clause, Barcelona keen

Benfica initially signed Álvaro Carreras from Manchester United in January 2024 on a loan deal and made his stay permanent last summer.
The left-back has cemented his place under Bruno Lage this season and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. The Red Devils are one of the contenders and this was the case even before Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford in November.
Last month, A Bola reported Manchester United have an advantage over Barcelona, Real Madrid and others due to their €20m buyback clause.
On Tuesday, Carreras played the full 90 minutes in his side’s unfortunate 5-4 Champions League loss to Barcelona.
Sport say Hansi Flick’s side have been monitoring him for several months and yesterday’s performance will have convinced them to consider him as an option. They add Barca have to be wary about Manchester United as they would like to bring him back.
Recent claims elsewhere have also discussed the possibility of the Spain U21 international moving to La Liga.
After Benfica’s defeat to Barcelona, the former Manchester United man had a chat with DAZN in Portugal, his quotes are relayed by Record.
When asked if his performance against Barcelona can lead to a move to important clubs in Spain and would he like it happen, he said: “No. Actually, you never know, but I have a contract for many years here at Benfica, I’m happy. They gave me the opportunity to grow, and I owe everything to them.”
