Glenn Kamara's potential move to Middlesbrough could be over as Rennes have opened talks with Al-Shabab about a potential transfer.

That's according to L'Equipe, who report that talks are ongoing between Rennes and the Saudi First Division squad.

Kamara has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough this month as Michael Carrick looks to strengthen his squad before the end of the window.

A deal was being discussed, with Kamara set to be one of several players to depart Rennes after Albert Gronbaek, Henrik Meister and Jota all made moves.

Kamara only joined the French side in the summer but several English clubs, including Middlesbrough, have made early moves for him. That, though, may no longer be a possibility.

That's because Al-Shabab have appeared on the scene and entered into negotiations with Rennes about a potential deal.

The two clubs are currently discussing a loan deal which would include an option to buy on the Finnish international. There's no mention of the value of this option to buy.

The Saudi Arabian side are keen to add a midfielder to their squad this month, though, and have targeted several profiles, including Wolves' Mario Lemina.

It seems Kamara can now be added to that list and talks are underway over a deal, which may end up ruining Middlesbrough's chances of getting him.
