No main gaffer through the next couple of matches.
Newcastle United have confirmed that Eddie Howe is recovering from pneumonia and will not be on the touchline for the club's next two Premier League fixtures. Assistant Jason Tindall will continue to lead the team in his absence, supported by Graeme Jones.
Howe was admitted to hospital on Friday and missed Sunday's 4–1 victory over Manchester United. He remains under medical care but has issued a message of thanks to supporters and staff via the club.
"A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes," Howe said in a statement published on the club's website.
"They have meant a lot to me and my family. I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me. I'm immensely grateful for the specialist care I'm receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible."
Tindall confirmed after the United win that Howe had sent a message to congratulate the team. He will take pre-match media duties on Tuesday and lead the side into Wednesday's home match against Crystal Palace, followed by a weekend trip to face Aston Villa.
Newcastle climbed to fourth with their victory on Sunday. A positive result against Palace would move them above Nottingham Forest and into third place.
