Newcastle draw Brentford in Carabao Cup Quarterfinal

Easy matchup for the Magpies to make it to the semifinals.

Newcastle United's quest for silverware took a significant step forward as they defeated Chelsea 2–0 to advance to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Alexander Isak scored the opener and an own goal from Chelsea's Axel Disasi made it a day for the Magpies as they were able to keep alive the Geordie faithful's dream of celebrating the winning of a major trophy for the first time since 1969.

Following the win, Newcastle learned that they will host Brentford in the next round, set to be played in the week commencing December 16.

Reflecting on the victory, Howe emphasized the importance of the team's intensity and high pressing, something the lads had missed a bit of late.

"It was a really good performance tonight, especially in the first half," Howe said. "We got our pressing attitude bang on and a lot of regains high up the pitch, which is where the first goal came from. Delighted with the contribution from the whole squad."

Newcastle fans will undoubtedly have Wembley in their sights, even more after last season's Carabao Cup journey, which ended in the final with a loss to Manchester United.

"I wanted a home draw because this place is an amazing venue to play in and that was shown again tonight," Howe said after learning of their quarter-final draw against Brentford.

Besides Newcastle's clash with Brentford, Arsenal will face Crystal Palace, Southampton will meet Liverpool, and Tottenham host Manchester United.
