The Serie A team wanted Lloyd Kelly for the second half of the season.

Newcastle United have turned down a loan approach from Juventus for defender Lloyd Kelly, according to Craig Hope of Daily Mail.

While the Serie A club expressed interest, there was no formal transfer offer, and sources indicate that Newcastle would only consider a deal if it included an obligation to buy for around £20-25 million as a loan is of no interest to the Magpies.

Fenerbahce showed interest in Kelly last week, submitting a bid north of £6 million, which Newcastle rejected because it was laughable at best, Mourinhoesque at worst.

Despite the transfer speculation, the club is currently operating under the assumption that the 26-year-old will remain on Tyneside for the rest of the season and beyond unless a huge offer arrives at their table.

Kelly joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth last summer but has struggled to secure a consistent starting role.

In contrast, young defender Alex Murphy, 20, has secured a temporary move to League One side Bolton Wanderers, according to Hope.

Murphy will spend the remainder of the season gaining valuable first-team experience that he would never get at NUFC on a steady basis.
