Newcastle United is nearing an agreement to extend the contract of winger Anthony Gordon, with the 23-year-old set to sign a new long-term deal that will put the young lad at the top of the Magpies' salary scale, according to Fabrizio Romano—among many others.

Discussions between both parties kicked off in August following the interest shown by Liverpool in convincing AG to move places, and while a final agreement has yet to be signed, Newcastle and Gordon are confident that a deal will be reached soon, according to The Athletic.

The new contract will make Gordon the highest-paid player at the club, reflecting his rising importance at Newcastle as the do-it-all forward these days playing on the wing, down the middle, and all the way up front as a striker if needed.

The Magpies were forced to explore the option of selling Gordon if they were unable to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules, but they ultimately solved that issue through the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Eddie Howe emphasized the importance of Gordon's future at the club speaking on Friday.

"We love Anthony, we'd love him to commit his future to us," Howe said. "He's been magnificent for us, and we have to help him get back to his best levels."

Since joining Newcastle from Everton in January 2023, Gordon has made significant strides by winning the Golden Ball at the Under-21 European Championship and making his senior debut for England in Euro 2024 even though he barely played in the competition.

Gordon was also named Newcastle's player of the season in 2023–24, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions. Gordon has started the current season strongly, with one goal in six appearances before Saturday's clash against Man City.
