Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic ahead of a possible January swoop.
The Gunners were beaten two years ago by Juventus to the signing of the Serbian international, who was then plying his trade with Fiorentina. The 24-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring nine times and adding one assist in 16 matches but the Turin giants are struggling to make progress with a new contract for their No.9.
Now, according to reliable Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, the representatives of Dusan Vlahovic are exploring other options with Arsenal keeping an eye on developments. The north Londoners are ready to meet the striker's agent soon to collect fresh information. Juventus, on their part, are ready to let the Serbian leave and have started working on his replacement.
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have slipped off the pace in the Premier League title race of late, though, a signing or two during the winter transfer window could transform their fortunes in the second half of the campaign. They will want someone to hit the ground running immediately after arriving, with an acceptance within the club that they need a prolific No.9.
Dusan Vlahovic to Arsenal—Good option for Mikel Arteta?
One of the reasons for Arsenal's struggles this term is the lack of goals. Kai Havertz has done well operating as a false 9, netting four goals in 11 Premier League games. However, the German international isn't a prolific goalscorer who will guarantee 20 to 25 goals in a season.
Gabriel Jesus' time at the Emirates Stadium has been blighted by injury problems and inconsistency, and despite returning to full fitness of late, he has failed to become the Arteta-managed side's main man in attack. Thus, the chiefs of the north London club have supposedly arrived at the conclusion of signing a new striker during the mid-season trading period, and Vlahovic has emerged as a leading option.
Dusan Vlahovic has had an up-and-down career at Juventus since arriving from Fiorentina in January 2022. The Belgrade-born star has not fully managed to live up to the lofty expectations of the Old Lady faithful, yet bagged 32 goals across the last two full seasons. The centre-forward has started the 2024/25 campaign strongly with nine strikes in 16 appearances, leading to Arsenal reviving their interest in him.
Strong, pacey and good in link-up play, the 31-cap Serbia international would fit the bill perfectly at Arsenal. On evidence of his goalscoring numbers in Serie A, Vlahovic would be an upgrade on both Havertz and Jesus while providing the Gunners' attack a much-needed focal point. He is only 24 and can become one of the best in his position under Arteta's watchful eyes.
Splashing the cash to lure Dusan Vlahovic away from Juventus would be a statement signing from Arsenal, one that could bolster their hopes of beating Liverpool and Manchester City to the Premier League title this season and keep improving on their promise in the coming years as well.
