Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion winger Facundo Buonanotte, who is currently on loan at newly promoted Leicester City.
Although the Lilywhites invested millions in the summer transfer window, including the £65million purchase of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in August—the club-record signing—head coach Ange Postecoglou is expected to be handed further opportunities to bolster his squad during the January transfer window after a hugely inconsistent start to the 2024/25 season.
And it appears the north Londoners are eyeing a winger in the New Year. According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Facundo Buonanotte's performances on loan at Leicester City have caught the attention of Tottenham.
The three-cap Argentinean international has made a positive impact for Steve Cooper's side, scoring three goals and supplying two assists in 10 Premier League appearances. He has arguably been the Foxes' best player in an otherwise torrid campaign so far upon their return to the top flight.
As a result, Leicester have already taken the first step to sign Buonanotte permanently from Brighton. The report adds the Seagulls have slapped a €50 price tag on the teenager's head amid interest from Spurs and a few Premier League clubs.
Facundo Buonanotte to Spurs—A decent option?
Tottenham have a fine blend of young talents and seasoned campaigners, with CEO Daniel Levy focusing on investing in youngsters with high potential in the last few years. The arrivals of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert in the summer have enhanced Spurs' talented pool of youngsters, while Yang Min-hyeok is poised to join the club from K-League club Gangwon FC in January.
Alongside academy products such as Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear slowly stepping into the first team under Ange Postecoglou, the Lilywhites are evidently preparing for the future and it marks exciting times at N17. And a player of Buonanotte's talent could very well add to that.
Primarily a right-winger, Buonanotte can also operate as a right-sided midfielder or in the No.10 role. He has thrived in the No.10 role behind the striker under Cooper at Leicester this season, demonstrating flair, creativity, energy and dynamism. The young South American has quick feet and the ability to skip past players before possessing the vision to unlock tight defences.
At Tottenham Hotspur, Buonanotte could challenge Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson for a spot in Ange Postecoglou's first XI while improving the squad’s depth. He has still a lot to learn and improve and can certainly do that under the watchful eyes of Postecoglou, who has been nurturing young talents at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since arriving in 2023.
Tottenham, who have top-four aspirations, are keeping tabs on the Argentinean's performances at Leicester, and may consider making a move for the teenage playmaker if he’s able to sustain his high performance level throughout the season.
