Samu Omorodion has claimed that his move to Chelsea fell through because ‘God didn’t want it’ to happen.

The Blues were looking set to sign the striker from Atletico Madrid in a £36million move this summer but the deal collapsed.

Omorodion did in fact leave Madrid though as he completed a move to Portuguese giants Porto and has since been in excellent form.

He has scored seven goals in as many games across all competitions but has now reflected on his proposed move to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet RTVE via The Daily Mail, he said: “I had a very difficult summer.

“We had a really bad time because in the end everyone knows that I was close to signing, but it’s true that if it didn’t happen, it was for a reason, because God didn’t want it.

“I’m also very grateful to Porto for giving me the opportunity when things looked at their worst, and I’m very happy with where I am now.

“I’ve left the past behind and now I’m focused on what’s coming to me.”

Omorodion’s first goal for Porto came off the bench in their 2-1 Liga Portugal win over Farense before netting two at Vitoria de Guimaraes.

A further league goal came against Arouca, with his Europa League form the pick of the bunch with three goals scored in three.

Two of those came in Porto’s 3-3 draw against Manchester United, with Omorodion the competition’s top scorer.

While the 20-year-old is enjoying himself in front of goal this season, Chelsea have also been successful in attack despite missing out on his services.

The Blues are the second highest scorers in the Premier League on 16 goals, one ahead of Arsenal and one shy of Manchester City.

Their overall tally in all competitions stands at an impressive 18 in 11 matches, with Christopher Nkunku’s seven goals their leading figure.

Cole Palmer is close behind on six, Noni Madeuke had five to his name and go-to striker Nicolas Jackson has netted four goals.

Chelsea’s success so far this season has been a testament to Enzo Maresca, who was named as the Premier League Manager of the Month for September.

Palmer also received the Player of the Month award having scored five goals throughout the month, with four historically coming in their 4-2 win against Brighton.
