Jurgen Klopp considered signing Antony to replace Mohamed Salah, according to reports.

The Brazilian winger was discussed as a potential target by Liverpool two years ago.

Salah’s future at Anfield is currently uncertain after he entered the final year of his contract.

The Reds were in a similar scenario in 2022 as negotiations over a new deal stalled.

According to The Times, Liverpool even went as far as to look into possible replacements for the Egyptian.

Amongst them was then Ajax man Antony, who Klopp discussed as a target internally with the club. However, the move was vetoed by Fenway Sports Group President Mike Gordon.

Ultimately, though, Salah penned a new three-year deal to remain on Merseyside through to the summer of 2025.

As for Antony, he completed an £86million move to Manchester United at the end of that summer.

He has since scored just 12 goals and provided five assists in 87 appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Salah has 10 goals and 10 assists this season alone in 17 matches for Liverpool.

The 32-year-old is once again into the final year of his contract, with the deal he signed two summers ago expiring at the end of the season.

He has yet to sign an extension, however, and looks set to leave the club after eight years.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have been strongly linked with a move for Salah in recent months.

The player himself has also hinted at a departure come the end of the campaign.

After scoring the winner against Brighton earlier this month, he wrote on X: “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there's only 1 champion in the end.

“That's what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

Liverpool fans will be given another chance to watch Salah in action on Wednesday night.
